Did you know that, way back when, Transformers and Decepticons used to be best friends?! That’s the premise of the animated feature Transformers One, an origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron who, before they were sworn enemies, were best buds on the planet of Cybertron.
The trailer first shown in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con today gives us another glimpse of how these alien robots gained the ability to turn into cars and stuff. The panel also showcased the star-studded cast, which includes Chris Hemsworth as Orion Pax/Optimus Prime, Brian Tyree Henry as D-16/Megatron, Scarlett Johansson as Elita-1, and Keegan Michael-Key as B-127/Bumblebee before he lost his voice. Jon Hamm also gives voice to Sentinel Prime, with Laurence Fishburne voicing Alpha Trion, and Steve Buscemi playing a dude named Starscream.
The movie comes to us from Toy Stoy 4 director Josh Cooley, with a script by Eric Pearson and Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari. The trailer also suggests that the feature is full of jokes but also drama! For example, we get to see our favorite toys robot aliens be really bad at transforming when they are suddenly bequeathed the power to do so. It’s hilarious! But we also see the rift beginning to form between two former best friends who end up leading armies against each other in a battle for… something.
Transformers One heads to theaters on September 20, 2024.
